I'm a survivor of the Catholic sex abuse crisis.

I was sexually exploited, abused, and assaulted — raped — by a priest names Father LeRoy Valentine at The Church of the Immacolata in St. Louis, MO, in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Abuse that was witnessed, at least in part, by a man who is now one of the most powerful men in the Catholic Church and the world.

A potential future Pope.

Abuse that continued at my Jesuit high school, St. Louis University High school, in the locker room, which was unsupervised and crawling with predatory Jesuits who liked to watch us shower. And worse.

Then things got REALLY bad.

The release of the original SPOTLIGHT articles led the New York Times to publish an article that prompted me to make the biggest mistake of my life.

I went to the Catholic Church for help.

I refuse to allow — I'll be damned if I allow — what happened to me to happen to anyone else.

I hope openly discussing what happened to me, in a variety of forms...

...and why and how, will help ensure it won't and can't happen again.

Sins

Sins of the Fathers is a collection of my writings that describe what happened to me, both when I was a child and, more importantly, when I was an adult; what I call the Abuse of the Abused.

Sacrificed

The Sacrificed Podcast tells the story of my involvement in the Catholic sex abuse crisis in podcast form.

SPOTLIGHT

SPOTLIGHT at 20 looks at the impact of the articles and movie, inspired by the 20-year anniversary of the publication of the first SPOTLIGHT articles about the Catholic sex abuse crisis. The topic's been weighing on me both because of what HAS been accomplished and what HASN'T...

Overviews

I've put together a number of overviews of my story...

I've also created a number of summaries of the role played by some of the big names in the Catholic Church in my story...

I tell my entire story via a series of essays I call The Sins of the Fathers...

My newest and most recently updated pieces are...
