What
happened to Hunter Greene?
The
Tommy John Twist happened.
And, as so often happens, Hunter
Greene's Tommy John Twist created particularly
bad form of a Timing
problem that I call
Flat
Arm Syndrome.
All too predictably.
As I hope my tweets
about Hunter Greene and his pitching mechanics make clear.
What Happened to Hunter Greene?
What happened to Hunter Greene?
Why did he need Tommy John surgery?
Why won't that be his only injury problem?
The problem is Hunter Greene's pitching arm; how it's FLAT and not UP when his
shoulders start to turn and his pitching arm starts to come under load.
In the frame below, notice how the "R" of the
"Reds" script on Hunter Greene's chest is starting
to blur, meaning that his shoulders are starting to turn and
his pitching arm is starting to come under Load.
You can see the same pattern and relationship in this still photo of Hunter Greene,
which also shows Hunter Greene's
Tommy John Twist.
Because his pitching arm is FLAT and not UP -- as Justin Verlander's pitching arm
tends to get UP -- that will increase the Load on Hunter Greene's arm, stressing both
his Elbow and his Shoulder.
