When I was in consulting, the emerging buzzword was Organizational Change Management.

And the firms I was with — Andersen Consulting and then Ernst & Young — were ramping up their Change Management Services practices.

Why?

Because Change is hard.

Customer Change

Our clients, even though they — theoretically — had complete control over their employees, still had a hard time getting people to buy into the changes that we had sold them and were helping them implement.

After leaving the world of consulting, and moving into the world of business to business and then business to consumer selling, I came to realize that we were facing a similar problem, but from a lower leverage position.
