Your Eminence,

Below is a letter I'm trying to get to the Pope in advance of the upcoming sex abuse summit.

Holy Father,

My name is Chris O'Leary and I'm a survivor of abuse by a priest.

From September 1977 through at least December 1980, I was sexually exploited, abused, and ultimately raped by Fr. LeRoy Valentine at the Church of the Immacolata in Richmond Heights, MO, a suburb of St. Louis.

At least some of that abuse — and/or the Testing and Grooming that preceded it — was personally witnessed by then Father and now Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who was at Immacolata at the same time.

And Cardinal Dolan did nothing to help us.

I have gone to the Archdiocese of St. Louis (ArchStL) for help multiple times — in 2002, 2011, and 2013 — and have received only denials, lies, Gaslighting, phony promises, and the Run-Around. What's more, when wrote the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to let them know ArchStL was not honoring their promise of providing Assistance Coordinators to help survivors, ArchStL made false accusations against me to the police, telling the police I made Terroristic Threats against ArchStL.

I did not.

What's worse — and, I assume, in an effort to discredit me — those false allegations were leaked to the public and, combined with ArchStL publicly telling the people of St. Louis that I'm lying, that has led to my being shunned by my parish.

I am writing to you — the rightful sucessor to Peter and wearer of the Annulus Piscatoris — to ask you to help my children, my ex-wife, me, and the other survivors in ArchStL.

Either directly or by having the Archdiocese of St. Louis help us.

Actually.

Perhaps you could force the Archbishop Carlson and the Archdiocese of St. Louis to create a fund for survivors and a — truly — independent claim review and compensation program like other (arch) dioceses have?

I would also suggest that, given the magnitude and seriousness of the problem, a visit by Bishop Scicluna and an investigation of ArchStL might be warranted.

I say that, in part, because I have come to wonder if Satanic forces are at work in St. Louis given the magnitude of the problem.

So you understand the nature and magnitude of my personal problem, know that I am very intelligent and, more importantly, was educated and trained by your fellow Jesuits at St. Louis University High school (SLUH 1986). I went from making $100,000 per year in 2007 to making less than $20,000 in 2017 due to mental health problems I have developed...

- PTSD or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- C-PTSD or Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Depression
- Anxiety

... as a result of my abuse by Fr. Valentine and my re-abuse by Cardinal Dolan and ArchStL.

I'd put the financial impact to my family and me of my initial abuse — and then re-abuse by ArchStL — at roughly $2 million dollars. That's the cost in lost wages as well as the cost of getting divorced and the resulting estrangement from my children.

Who the Archdiocese of St. Louis has told I'm lying.

I tried to force ArchStL to help me by filing a lawsuit in 2015, but their — in my opinion deliberate — efforts to create a problem with the Statute Of Limitations were successful and forced me to settle for $15,000 ($9,000 net).

So, now, only you can help my children, my ex-wife, and me.

And the other survivors in St. Louis.

I and the many other survivors of Fr. Valentine, Cardinal Dolan, and the other troubled priests in St. Louis DESPERATELY need help — financial and other — managing and treating the consequences of our original abuse.

And our betrayal — the abuse of the abused — by the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
